The Archives Team at Paulton Methodist Church have been busy transcribing the records of baptisms for the Paulton area from 1837 through to 1920, and also the census information for Paulton (including Old Mills and Withy Mills) for 1901, 1891, 1871 and 1861. These records will be available to purchase very soon (either on CD or in paper format) and a further announcement will be made shortly on how to obtain your copy.
Individual censuses on CD will cost £10 (each additional census on the same CD is an additional £5).
Paulton baptisms on CD will cost £5.
In book form the cost is £5 for the baptisms, and £8.50 for each census.
These documents include many coal miners, boot and shoe makers, and all the other trades and professions carried out in Paulton together with details of their families.
Mission at Paulton
Here, in Paulton, our on-going project is to continue to support ‘Kanyawegi’, an orphanage in Kenya, founded by local resident Jim Dawe many years ago. We have been supporting this project for the past eleven years and have a table set up in the Wesley Hall where people can purchase items which have been donated, the proceeds of which are then forwarded onto the orphanage.
As a Church, we are very much aware of the need for Mission within our own locality and are therefore currently supporting the Somer Valley Food Bank by continually supplying items of food for distribution. A service was held earlier this year promoting this project.
Open the Book
A small group of members and friends from the Church take Mission into the local infant and primary schools with the ‘Open the Book’ project. They interact with the children during school assemblies twice a month, encouraging the children to learn about the bible with stories and play-acting. Although this is a fairly new project for us, it is proving very popular with the youngsters.
‘Churches Together in Paulton’ are responsible for Christian Aid Week and we all work together distributing envelopes, collecting and providing hunger lunches.
We are delighted that some of our Sunday Club children collect regularly for JMA (Junior Mission for All). Several members of our congregation collect too for Home and Overseas Missions.
