Fundraising at Westfield

Published in

Fund raising activities have been a necessary and very enjoyable feature of Church life throughout the years.

Special mention should however be made to the loyal and splendid efforts made by so many, from 1961-1967, when a coffee stall was opened at weekends for 3 months in the summer each year, to cater for people travelling south for holidays. During the peak holiday period it would be opened from 4.00pm on Fridays to late Saturday evenings, with ladies on duty during the day and men throughout the night.

The earliest recorded date of a Methodist Society at Westfield was 18th March 1851, and it is assumed services were held in private homes. In November 1860 a cottage occupied by a Mr George Hobbs was used as the meeting place for members of the Primitive Methodist Denomination and registered for ‘Worship and Conduct of Marriages’.
